Board reset automatically

Message par Mike-Arpschuino »

Hello,

Recently ran into a problem.

I've been touring with the same setup for 1,5 year now, using Arpschuino to control 6 stepper motors. Working flawlessly. Until now..

The board seems to reset randomly. I swapped out the boards and power supply without any succes, Power seens fine also because I can't see any change in the red indicator LED. When the board resets I can only see the dmx light turn of and on again after a few seconds. Like the same it would if you reboot the board with the button.

Of course there could also be something faulty with the wiring after touring for a while, but is there a way in wich the board could reset with faulty DMX signal, traveling over to much length or something. Because the only thing changed in my setup is the desk I've been touring with. Changed from HOG to MA3.. Feels like this happens with certain nodes or when it is directly connected to the DMX output of the desk with a certain length of cable. But this offcourse could also be a coincidence and could still be caused by faulty dmx wiring, but then still. Could it be caused by DMX input? Or only with faulty power supply?

Anyone run into a similar issue?

Thanks!

hello,

Thanks for using arpschuino.

Are you using arpschuino (atmega328) or arpschuino32 (ESP32) version ?

You should try to disable RDM, not sure this will fix the issue but arpschuino and arpschuino32 are not accepting RDM
if you can try to swap with another dmx generator, enven a free one to check if you have the same issue. If not, this might be the MA3 DMX Signal. This will give you a clue if you have an hardware issue (arpshuino side) or a DMX signal issue.

if you are using arpschuino32, you should also try to update boards to the latest firmware
https://arpschuino.fr/update-arpschuino32_e.php

Please tell us if this fixed the issue, it's important because if there is an issue with RDM, we will try to fix his in the firmware.

I am using the arpschuino32,

I am on the Holy Motors firmware 1.3.2?

I thought of RDM, But to my knowledge I was not outputting RDM in MA3 (you have to set the ports to RDM out, should do that with normal DMX out settings. But that would be a major difference between MA3 and HOG.

Going to upgrade to 1.4 now, I'll see what happens.

Past times it happend was with the MA3 ports directly out of the console and with a pretty long distance DMX in between. Ones it also happened with a ELC node. Could be that it was because it sends out RDM, or because of a certain refresh rate? Of drop of the rate with low DMX changes?

Thank you!

1.2.3 that was.

This has some nice upgrades allready. Seems to hold up for now, will report what happens later in venues..

I see a Homing option in this software, that offcourse has to do with a zero of full switch.

But just sharing a thought here, now when the board resets for whatever reason the position of the motor at that moment will be the starting point. DMX value 0, and then it will start to turn to whatever dmx value it gets.

But wouldn't it be easier if the dmx value its getting at the point of reset wil stay the same and the motor doesn't turn at that moment.

For example you output dmx value 200, the board resets and the motor will see its current position as dmx value 200. So when you turn it down to 0 it will rotate anti clockwise.

I made little hoist with steppermotors, so for me this makes sense. But wouldn't it be helpfull in any steppermotor situation?

Thanks

Hello,

I'm happy that updating the boards seems to have fixed the issue, we're glad that you appreciate the developpement of the firmware.

We will talk about the feature that you are asking for with the team mates.

if you are comfortable with C++, you also can use the custom port and write your own code.
